"We read to remember the past;
We write to be remembered in the future."
~ Zoë Dunn, former student

Welcome to 6th Grade ELA!!

In English Language Arts (ELA), we will be reading and writing together. We'll take the time to explore the world around you and the world within you!

The more that you read,
the more things you will know.
The more that you learn,
the more places you'll go.
~ Dr. Seuss ~

Our Weekly Routine

With weekly rituals in place, you can arrive to class knowing exactly what to expect! (This takes some of the guesswork out of school!) Here's our general plan for each week.

Mondays:
Introduce Mind Bender and Word of the Week
Wordly Wise
Grammar Mini-lesson on a weekly Focus Topic
(If time, work on novel/project/current unit.)

Tuesdays:
Quote of the Week
Journal in Response to Quote
Novel/Play/Short Story/Project Work

Wednesdays:  VOCABULARY DAY!
Weeks alternate between new lists and "quests" (bigger than a quiz, smaller than a test) on the previous week's list.

Thursdays:  Writing Workshop Day
We work on writing (MCAS Open Response, stories, poems, etc.)

Fridays:  I Love Reading Day!
Teacher reads aloud from  Harry Potter & the Sorcerer's Stone
Journal writing based on Harry Potter reading & independent reading
S.S.R. (Sustained Silent Reading):  Students read books of their choice
